“Joy. And pain. Like sunshine. And rain”
Anyone old enough (or South London enough) to remember that from the 80s?
It’s what we need right now. As second wave accelerates, as the days get shorter, as the economy tightens. We don’t need to add more dark.
Make an effort to dig in to humour, to look for and point out the light, to see the opportunities for gratitude.
We can intentionally do all of these things rather than ignoring them, hoping they’ll just appear, or dismissing them as “unprofessional”.
And if you’re in a leadership position, that goes 10x for you. Find the reserves. Get the support you need. Listen to music. Watch your favourite comedians. List your gratitudes. Find the opportunities to make more conscious business. Find purpose in your responsibility to your team.
Because your mood, even over Zoom or Teams or carrier pigeon, will influence the team.
So how about we start each meeting with a round robin of our favourite joke? Adds 10 minutes to meeting time, but some light and joy where it’s needed.
The weather is grey. Work doesn’t need to be.
Will 2022 be another year of a strategy at best vaguely met? Of being a CEO unable to step back from the day-to-day to do the things your company needs to meet it's ambitions? Of having a purpose and values that don't directly connect to everything you do? We're looking for an intimate beta group of CEOs (10 to 40 employees) to join us on this upcoming webinar to talk through our Build on Purpose framework for making strategy, purpose and values happen.
