The most powerful but underused word is “enough”. We focus on “more”, and see “enough” as a cop-out. As us not being ambitious.
The trouble with “more” is that it is infinite. It never stops. With a “more” attitude, having more just makes you want more. And wanting more leads to working more. To consuming more.
And consuming more leads us to destroying more.
And to being more unfulfilled.
How about we try “enough”? I’d like to earn “£”, and that’s actually enough for me. I’d like to work x hours, and that’s enough.
Or perhaps we should apply “more” to dimensions other than size of income or company.
Like impact. Or time with family or friends. Or laughing.
I think we’ve put more and enough in the wrong places.
Because surely the best ambition is to know “enough”?
