Flourish.
That’s my word for work in 2023.
It’s always been there for me. It was the biggest satisfaction I got when I had a large team – seeing team members flourish.
The stories that live with me most and which get me most emotional are those where I’ve seen people grow often beyond what they’d envisaged themselves.
The thanks I cherish the most are the ones of people who’ve felt they were given the opportunity, environment and framework to grow.
Especially when it was fun along the way.
And since I’ve been working with CEOs and their leadership teams, the greatest pleasure I get is when I see them scaling, taking more in their stride, getting more comfortable and confident in their skins, independently making bigger and better decisions and creating ever bigger impact. Often without realising they’re doing it.
Some of you don’t even know the gratitude I have to you for my having witnessed it while we’ve been working together. I don’t tell you as I don’t want it to sound patronising. But you explicitly feature on my gratitude list (yes, I keep one).
And you enrich my work and make it worthwhile.
And you feature in the stories I tell other people which helps them see the art of the possible, and of going somewhere they can’t yet define.
It’s always been there. But this year I want to bring it to the forefront, to be more explicit in my mind as I work with more CEOs and leadership teams. To be clear that we’ll do process, we’ll do development, we’ll banter, we’ll have fun.
But all in service of flourishing.
To create environments where CEOs, their leadership teams, and those in their charge flourish. Where their companies flourish. And where their impact for good flourishes.
Flourish.
Happy 2023. Let me know if this resonates in any way. And if you do the “my word for the year is”, I’d love to know what it is.
