Team over individual favours the team and the individual

Team over individual favours the team and the individual

Iyas A · Aug 8, 2021 ·

“Teams win when their individual members trust each other enough to prioritize team success over individual glory; paradoxically, winning as a team is the best way for the team members to achieve individual success.”

Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha’s excellent book, The Alliance, is full of gems on building great teams.

This quote struck me for a couple of reasons. First, because I see so many debates in leadership teams in defence of star individuals who have negative impacts on the people they work with. And second because it is as relevant for the leadership team as it is for any other team in the company.

Really worth a pause to consider whether your teams work this way, and if not, how to foster the trust to allow it.

Buy it here to support independent bookshops. Our commission will go into a Lendwithcare fund for microloans to women business owners in developing countries.
