A recent YouGov poll found that less than 10% of those questioned wanted life to return to “normal” after the crisis is over.
Almost all the things that people want from “new normal” relate to community, environment and lifestyle / balance.
What’s not in the survey is the fact (I assume) that most people still want jobs that pay a “normal” wage. And in order to do that, businesses need to stay alive, solvent, and preferably thriving.
Which means that as business leaders, we have a real challenge, alongside our responsibility, to define the new normal.
So as we replan, we need to adopt a holistic (and structured) approach which factors in customers, team, propositions, profit, community and environment across all areas of our business – from ops, to sales, to production / delivery, finance, and the rest.
An approach that goes from managing cash to ensure survival through to aligning our rebuilt and antifragile businesses with human values alongside commercial imperatives.
Which is what the Protect and Build Better framework is about. We need our businesses to survive and come out better.
