If you lead a business, the last thing your team needs right now is brazen acts of vulnerability. (Let the trolling commence!).
In times of crisis, we need leaders who inspire confidence in the direction we’re going.
Because confidence turns purpose from fantasy to hope.
But most of us can’t just switch confidence on and off. So where does it come from?
One of 3 places. Only one of which is worth pursuing.
It can come from not knowing the danger you’re in. Today, confidence on that basis will lose you all credibility.
It can be because you know you’re good at “winging it”. Admirable, for sure, but unless your team regularly genuflects in your Godlike direction, not one to lean on right now.
The third way is to have a plan. If hope comes from purpose, confidence comes from a plan. We’re all more confident when we have a plan, and our team will feel that as well.
So if you’ve not yet created a plan to get through the crisis, as well as one to take your team and company to a better place, then I’d start right now. And involve your team in creating it.
(Shameless plug – our Protect and Build Better framework is about creating a strategy to survive the crisis and build a purpose-led business coming out of it.)
