We’re wondering when this will all be over. Fair question. But I’d hope we’re also thinking about what we’ve learned that we want to keep, and what we had before that we don’t want back.
Do we want to return to soul-destroying commutes, or can we travel less to work and make any travel that we still need to do more human?
Do we want to clog up the roads (and our lungs and the environment), or would we rather walk in fresh air with our kids? Do we want oil resurging with our tax money, or renewables to fill demand as it rises?
Do we want companies that focus only on making their owners richer, or ones that focus on increasing the richness of all life, and treat owners fairly?
Do we want humanity to slave for profit without limit, or profits to help nurture community and environment?
It’s up to us.
We can wistfully “hope things get better”; a guarantee that time will pass and memories will fade as we regress back to “normality”.
Or we can plan and rebuild with the community spirit that has suddenly and ironically been heightened through our isolation, and take action to get to better.
What would you choose?
